when will we dream this thing to sleep? why do we ask for all the things we cannot keep? when will you get into yourself and get over everybody else? this is a song for all the songs already written this wouldn't have any sound if no one listened this is a song for all the songs already written i may be the only one who knows just which way upside down it goes you should have someone to sing your heart out maybe somebody that you're not when the tables haven't turned yet and you're stopping on a dime and it feels like it's forever yet we're running out of time why would we wait another day?
2.
gwendacine (free) 05:11
have you ever been a fool fooled by imitation life? have you ever drooled a pool or lit a light when there's nothing in the pipe? it makes me feel that way again have you ever kissed the back of your hand, thinking hard for home? have you ever missed a party but did something better on you own it makes me feel that way again gwendacine california sunshine smiling mickey mouse blouse when it's clean gwendacine a million sloppy kisses in the happy ending machine what keeps me going, going, going down to gwendacine is what keeps me going, going, going down to gwendacine disney world when you're young and bingo night when you're old mp3's when you're young and photo albums when you're old it makes me feel that way again have you ever wanted something so bad you just kept resisting? have you ever left someone you wanted to leave and yet you still miss them? it makes me feel that way again
3.
that word 03:30
that word, that word slips right off the tongue that word, that word belongs to the young that word, that word sticking to your guns that word that word, that word so hard to say that word, that word giving you away that word, that word to swear and to pray that word and if the time does not allow to stay say that word is not occurring then i'll be on my way 'til another day when that word is all but certain that word is all but certain that word, that word illuminates a glow that word, that word you can tell and it shows that word, that word no one needs to know
4.
innocent pleasures (free) 02:39
why you gotta go? I don’t know anymore I was just thinking of having another myself why don’t you join me with a glass? a toast to those gone why don’t you join me? tomorrow we’ll be home it cannot be denied innocent pleasures in the night if no one sees, no one knows innocent pleasures and where the time goes can’t you feel it now? the wordless shadow, the worthless line the perfect timing it cannot stay away innocent pleasures tender prey decide today innocent pleasures do you want to play?
5.
one by one heal the distance one by one dismiss resistance one by one heal the distance one by one one by one heal the distance one by one resist dismissive stances one by one heal the distance one by one
6.
I graduated early with a bachelor of hearts I broke so many I minored in the darkest of arts you got extra points for cheating the head of the class was on a beer now listen here we did much worse than that if you don’t know you don’t know how it feels to not feel I was the teacher’s pet, you bet a bachelor of hearts sometimes I pretend to be dumb sometimes it just smarts last september my love was none better than one to one it’s better now that you know now I can tell you why now I can tell I plagiarized the play I wrote you in twice I made it seem like we had dreams larger than life
7.
though there was nothing there before it was something, yeah, to behold there was no one in your shoes couldn’t see you point of view a different side of you when all the lights were dead there was a light bulb off in your head you thought to yourself maybe tonight you made a believer out of me a skeptical believer you say you know what it means to say you don’t understand if the spirit moves you now to places you can’t stand with aces in your hand
8.
devastating 04:47
this has no perfect ending this came out of the blue this one was probably written for you this has no perfect ending everything you want to happen to you comes true everything wants to be close to you everything you want, too as surely somewhere someone is synonymous with light you look so devastating tonight only sometimes something is said perfectly right you look so devastating tonight unofficially a theme song for every dreamer to dream on we know the wounds are mending just in time to tell we dance punch drunk and wait for the bell this has no perfect ending

secret identity (free) 02:51
i float a trial balloon up to the sky i have an answer to every question but why can’t you see the me i’ve always wanted to be? there are a thousand moons marooned in the night there’s only one way to break my heart right all right can’t you see the me i’ve always wanted to be? my secret identity is evidently blown
11.
x number 01:48
12.
it’s all atmosphere in here there aren’t any doubts at all about what it’s all about how do you sing a song never written? how would it sound in another? when will we hear the words which remain hidden? why won’t you give us all that you once gave? what are you saving yourself for? so, you were too sincere endeared yourself to those who crank the gears as if the motor of love could be steered last night you could say is still happening today all you ever wanted is all I ever wanted was for you to stay
13.
the summer set is upon my bed somersaults inside my head no sooner than you’d least expect no longer now than you suspect I fall into the same pattern each fall inside the turnaround tornado the something said you can’t take back the kiss you dread, the technique the nothing is better than this now the everything you need not speak
14.
I’ve seen you turn around a few hundred times inside that turncoat I’ve seen all sides and sizes of you don’t sugarcoat what you’re on it’s what you’re on sometimes it’s gone this time you’re on dig it bottomless there was a chimpanzee and a cockatoo there were brains up front but not enough glue cool aid stains on my fingers bakin’ a pot of beans my horse ran off with a sailor but he says it ain’t what it seems they could tie my tongue but still read my lips I wasn’t going down with just any old ship goddamn, what a waterfall goddamn that waterfall
15.
threatening 03:59
I concede there’s a lot like me who don’t like me in the know no, not at all I can plead for a fresh reprieve I can stand against a wall and believe I’ll watch the fall you can feel it coming you can feel it coming you can feel it come on in threatening we sat outside and watched the fireworks die killing time and hanging around for more I know the sound of letting down the sigh of defeat cross the victory line complete
16.
pretend the night is over now what would you do differently? imagine there’s no space between you and me they’ll show how that one’s done some night they’ll reveal but remain aloof what you might have been today was right there in your youth there’s nothing to fear and though it may seem pretty clear you’ll notice that means nothing to the girl you’ll know then that there’s something to the girl this poignant moment brought to you by where the winds of change will haunt are you certain what you need is also what you want? i like to take it day by day i’d like to make it feel okay i like to stick it to the man i’d like someone to understand
17.
that’s some serious emotion pouring down on us as if we must that’s some serious emotion can’t you hear it in the night? we shouldn’t fear it out of sight that’s some serious emotion an empty clearing, the landing life a disappearance in the limelight what do you learn from it when you return to it that’s some serious emotion giving your heart the runaround given your heart

about

The seed of this album was 14 tracks written and recorded during the month of February 2009 for FAWM (February Album Writing Month). FAWM is a self imposed musical challenge to write 14 songs in 28 days. We'd never done it and wanted to see if we could. On Feb. 28th we had 14 fully recorded and produced tracks, not knowing that simply writing a few lines of lyrics qualified as a song.
We liked most of what we had done and wanted to make something a bit more complete. So we kept a few, threw out a few, and started recording more. Every Thursday (and a few Sundays) for a couple years. Nearly 30 songs. We narrowed it down to 17 tracks and decided to call it Heavy Favorites.
